Chicken & Ham Dinner
The congregation of the Arbuckle United Methodist Church invites the community to attend their annual Chicken/Ham Dinner to be held on Sunday, February 26, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Arbuckle Fire Hall.  Tickets for adults are $10.00, Children 4 yrs. – 12 yrs. $4.00 and those 3 and under are free.  A beautiful quilt designed and created by Barbara Peterson will be raffled.  Tickets for the quilt raffle are being sold by Florence Uhland. Local businesses and members of the congregation donate items for the Opportunity Drawing Table and each year, more wonderful gifts seem to be available.  Also, the homemade bake table has delicious goodies for everyone and the fishing booth is always fun for the children. Tickets for the dinner may be purchased at the door or from any member of the congregation.  It is going to be a great evening enjoying the best chicken in town with family and friends.

FISH FRY WILL HELP GRAD NIGHT
A Fish Fry is scheduled for 4-7 p.m. Feb. 24 to raise funds for the Colusa High Sober Grad Night. There will be choice of fish strips or chicken strips, with fries, coleslaw, dessert and beverage. The event will be held at the Sacramento River Fire Protection station, 235 Market St., Colusa. The cost is $10. Children 10 or younger eat for $6. ALUMNI GAMES AT WHS
Williams High School has scheduled Decade Alumni Games.  The Women will play on Thursday, Feb. 23 and the Men will play on Friday, Feb. 24. starting at 6:00 PM. The Men’s Alumni from 1960, 1970, & 1980:  Odd numbered graduating years vs. Even numbered graduating years. 7:00 PM Men’ Alumni from 1990 & 2000:  Odd years vs. Even years. Participating players need not have played on a team but must be alumni and ready to have some fun.  Get your teams together. To sign-up, please contact Jaime Gonzalez @ 864-3822 or Cindy Gobel @ 681-8919 OR go into the WHS gym where there are sign-up papers on the south wall.  The number of people who sign up in each decade determine the game times.  Games have been tentatively set to start at 5:30 p.m. both nights. The Snack Bar will be open. This is a Brown & Gold Fundraiser.  All players: $5.00 All spectators: $3.00

SOROPTIMIST TO HOST YARD SALE
The Soroptimist International will be hosting a Yard Sale on Saturday February 25th and Sunday, February 26th. This huge sale will be located at 124 Carson St, Colusa  from 8 am to 4 pm Sat Feb 25 & Sun Feb 26  All proceeds will go towards scholarships for girls in Kenya.

CARD PARTY/LUNCHEON FEB. 25
The Arbuckle Knights of Columbus will hold their first annual Card Party and Luncheon beginning at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 25 at the Holy Cross Catholic Hall, 608 Laurel St., Arbuckle. Whist, bridge and pinochle will be played. The fee is $15 per person. For more information, call Richard Rone at 458-8514.

GARDEN CLUB OF COLUSA COUNTY
The Garden Club of Colusa County will meet on February 27, 2012 at 6:30 pm at Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church at 5th and Webster, Colusa.    Rella, owner of Simply Succulents in Fort Bragg will be our guest speaker.  Rella will talk about using succulents as a design element in the garden.  She is an expert on all aspects of growing succulents from around the world and will be happy to answer any questions.  Membership is open to all and guests are welcome.  Call Sherry @ 473-2830 for more information.

DROP IN TO READ
Our Lady of Lourdes School presents a Drop In To Read Story Time on Wednesday, Feb. 29, March 7, March 14, and March 21 from 6-7pm. Stories will follow a fun theme each week with hands on activities to follow- perfect for kids 3-8yrs old. This event is sponsored by the Sacarmento River Cats who have provided a limited number of lawn tickets to children participating in the event. What a great way to promote literacy. VETERAINS TO HOLD YARD SALE
The VFW is hosting an holding an indoor yard sale from 8 a.m. to noon on March 3. Tables are available for rent, please contact  Art Blaine at 458-4466 or Omar Gryder at 458-2726. Cist us $13 per table and the deadline to reserve your space is March 1.

WILLIAMS VBS DINNER & AUCTION
On Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 5:30pm the Williams VBS will host a Dinner & Auction at the Community Church on C & 9th St. in Williams. Pulled Pork, corn bread, coleslaw, baked beans, and dessert will be served. Ticket prices are Adults $12; Children 4-10 only $6. Silent Auction items will be displayed along with raffle items.  All proceeds will help sponsor a week long of vacation bible school in July for students k-6th.

4-H 2012 CAMP TEEN COUNSLOR APPLICATIONS NOW AVAILABLE
All teens, 9th grade (graduated from 8th grade) and older, as of June 1, 2012, are eligible to apply. Prior 4-H membership and camp experience is not required. All those applying for teen counselor positions MUST submit an application and attend an interview. Selection decisions will be announced by mail or phone. Applications Due:  Wednesday, March 14, 2012, by 5:00 p.m. Interviews will be scheduled Thursday, March 22, 2012 – by appointment only at the CIP Conference Room, 100 Sunrise Blvd., Colusa. COLUSA COUNTY AMERICAN RED CROSS
On Friday, March 30th at 11:30am the Colusa County Branch of the American Red Cross will host a meet and greet for the new Emergency Director, Michelle Perkins for the American Red Cross of Northeastern California. WESTERN DAYS COOK-OFF
Sign-ups are being accepted for the Western Days Dutch Oven Cook-Off scheduled for March 31. Sign-ups also are being accepted for the 500 official tasters for the event, which is sponsored by the Colusa County Chamber of Commerce and Colusa Casino resort. There is no cost to enter. YOUTH AWARD NOMINATIONS OPEN
The Colusa County Office of Education is accepting nominations for the seventh annual Caring Youth Awards. Nominations are open for anyone 5 to 18 years old, and all children who are nominated will be acknowledged. Nominations are based on three categories of “Community Values,” which are derived from the Search Institute’s 10 Developmental Assets. The three categories are: Strength of Character; Heroic Resilience; and Community Service. Nomination forms are available at each school and explain more about the program. SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE
The Glenn Colusa Cattlewomen and Cattlemen have scholarships available with awards totaling $200,000 to students who will be entering their junior, senior or graduate years of upper-division University or college in the fall of 2012, preferably with an emphasis on beef production and/or promotion. FEELING AT HOME PHOTOS SOUGHT
The Colusa County Arts Council is accepting entries to its “Feeling at Home: A Photo Essay” show that will be held in conjunction with the annual Virginia Yerxa Community Read. The Virginia Read, focusing on “The Grapes of Wrath,” will be held April 28. The Arts Council show will highlight black and white photos “featuring images that capture the feeling of home” and in the style of photographer Dorothea Lange. Lange was associated with John Steinbeck as he wrote the articles that ultimately became his classic novel. Entries are due by March 1. LIBRARY SPONSORING CHESS CLUB
The Colusa County Library is sponsoring a Chess Club. The group meets from 3-5 pm Mondays and Tuesdays at the library in Colusa. All ages and skill levels are welcome. For more information, call 458-7671.

ELECTRONIC WASTE DROP-OFF
Recology and the City of Williams offer free monthly drop-off of electronic waste such as TVs, household batteries, fluorescent tubes and computers, from 9am to 2pm. The event is held the first Thursday of every month at the City of Williams Public Works Yard at 735 7th Street. There is a limit of 5 TVs or computers per visit. CAR SEAT SAFETY CLASSES
Do you know what car seat is right for your child?  Do you know how to properly install your child’s car seat?  Is your child safe in your car?  Colusa County Public Health can help! Certified child safety seat technicians are currently offering classes that will answer all your questions.  The cost of the class is $20 and may qualify low income families for a free car seat. Classes are held monthly from 10-1130 in English and Spanish.  Space is limited so call ahead to reserve your space.  Colusa County Public Health can be reached at (530) 458-0380.
