Winter Storm Warning – 3/12/12

The National Weather Service has issued both a Hazardous Weather Outlook and a Wind Advisory for the Northern Sacramento Valley that includes the areas of Colusa, Yolo, Glenn, Butte, and Sutter Counties.

A strong winter storm will move into Northern California tonight bringing showers to the valley and periods of heavy snow to the mountains.

Southerly winds of 25 to 35 MPH with local gusts up to 50 MPH will develop by late tonight as the storm moves inland. Winds will strengthen and will cause difficulty driving. Downed tree limbs may be possible, and debris in the road way may lead to isolated power outages. Drivers are to use caution, especially for high profile vehicles as driving may become extremely difficult.

Residents are expected to experience several days of precipitation for a seven day period with a slight chance of thunderstorms and hail.

Motorists driving into the mountains are advised to carry necessary supplies to sustain an emergency, and to have adequate chains handy if snow conditions develop and driving becomes impaired.
