Pedestrian hit by Semi

On Wednesday, August 18th 2011 at approximately 11:00 pm. A semi-truck traveling northbound pulled into the Maxwell Rest Area. The driver and the co-pilot, currently unidentified male, 45, took a brief break before heading back to the truck. It was then the co-pilot started acting strangely and took off on foot in an unknown direction.

The driver contacted the authorities and advised them of the unusual circumstance of the co-driver. Williams Area CHP responded.

The CHP was en-route when several calls were made to the CHP dispatch advising of a traffic collision involving a semi-truck a 1998 Freight-liner driven by Nancy Rudolph, 50 of Tuscon, AZ., a 2006 Dodge driven by Hector Estudillo, 32 of Tukwila, WA, a 2005 Nissan driven by Anthony Alarcon, 33 of Redding, CA, and an unidentified 45-year-old pedestrian.

CHP units arrived on scene and found a male subject in the northbound lanes that suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a semi-truck. The subject was identified as the co-driver of the semi-truck that was parked in the rest area.

Northbound Interstate 5 was closed at the rest area for approximately 3-4 hours to allow CHP officers to investigate the incident. All traffic was routed through the rest area at that time.


The name of the co-driver is being withheld until notification has been made to next of kin.
