Explosion Still Under Investigation

Roberto Ayala

On July, 16, 2011 at about 1:20 pm, Roberto Ayala was found deceased of an apparent electrical panel explosion that occurred at a rice field near the 2047 canal and Wescott Road, in Colusa County. An investigation is on-going and evidence from the scene has been recovered. A determination has been made that the explosion was a deliberate act and not an accident. A homicide investigation is being conducted.

The Colusa County Sheriff’s Office, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, as well as the Federal Bureau of Investigation are in the process of analyzing a tremendous amount of evidence that was recovered from the scene. The investigative team is still conducting interviews and analyzing the large amount of information that has been produced as part of the investigation.

At least one person has been in contact with the Sheriff’s Department claiming credit for the bombing but authorities are not sure it’s the person responsible because certain details of the explosion appear to not be accurate.

Anyone with information about the bombing is encouraged to call a tip line that has been established for this incident.
