The 2012 summer hire program at Premier Mushrooms L.P. in Colusa is providing employment for youth this summer.

The mushroom growers employ about 170 people at its Colusa farm. Company CEO John Ashbaugh commented that he is always pleased to introduce potential new employees to the business.

In 2011 Premier offered summer employment to students at Colusa High School through a job fair and hiring process. This summer the employment  opportunity was offered to children of the farm’s employees. Several dozen young people applied for the jobs.

After a series of interviews, six positions were filled.
Karla Ortega, Agustin Tinoco, Estevan Frias, Felipe Granados, Diego Navarro, and Jose Luna accepted the positions offered and are now learning the skills associated with mushroom growing and marketing.

Premier Mushrooms L.P. grows about 250,000 pounds of mushrooms weekly at its Colusa farm. ■
