Master Gardener Training Program Set

Colusa and Sutter-Yuba County residents may participate in a 64-hour training program to become a UC Master Gardener volunteer through the University of California Cooperative Extension. The training classes will be held in Yuba City and Colusa. Training will be from January 15, 2013 to April 30, 2013.

An introduction to horticulture, soils and water, weeds, insects, lawns, pests, landscape, fruit trees and disease diagnosis will be part of the curriculum. The cost of the program is $150.00 which includes two U.C. reference books.

Individuals must pass a written exam, be able to volunteer a minimum of 50 hours in activities and effectively communicate by telephone and in person.

The deadline to submit applications for Colusa County residents is Friday, November 9, 2012. Applications can be obtained from the Colusa UCCE Office at 100 Sunrise Blvd., Ste. E in Colusa, call us at 530-458- 0570, from a Master Gardener of Colusa County or on-line at cecolusa.ucdavis. edu. To be considered for acceptance you must attend the mandatory “Meet the Master Gardener” orientation meeting at the Colusa County Cooperative Extension office on November 16 from 1-2pm.

The deadline to submit applications for Sutter and Yuba County residents is Friday, November 9, 2012. Applications are available at the UCCE Sutter-Yuba Counties office, 142A Garden Highway, Yuba City or call (530) 822-7515. A mandatory “Meet the Master Gardener” orientation program is scheduled for Friday, November 16, 2012 from 3:00p.m. to 4:30p.m. ■
