A group of about 20 from Faith Lutheran in Marysville visited the Premier Mushrooms L.P. farm in Colusa recently.

The tour focused on growing, harvesting, processing and shipping mushrooms.

Individuals taking the tour commented that after seeing how the mushrooms are grown and processed with such care, that they came away with a whole new respect for mushrooms.

Premier Mushrooms uses the Dutch method for growing its mushrooms. It currently produces 210,000 pounds of mushrooms a week on its Colusa Farm where it employs about 170 people.

It was recently ranked number 25 in the nation in the food and beverage category on the Inc. 500/5000 list.

Premier safety manager Tino Mendoza and limited partner purchasing manager Chris Gonzales lead the group on the tours.

Gonzales commented that they are always eager to take guests on tours of the farm.

Following the tour the group had lunch at Tommy’s Market Street Grill in downtown Colusa where owner Tommy Indrieri reserved the bistro’s patio area for their lunch.

Tour group participants Bill and Shirley Stubblefield commented that the mushroom farm tour was a lot of fun and very educational. “Tommy’s is a place we’d go to again,” said Shirley Stubblefield. ■
