Colusa County’s Pumpkin Village will be welcoming fall visitors for the first time at the Colusa County Fairgrounds Oct. 21- 25, 2015.
Weekdays are being reserved for but not restricted to all Colusa County students who will be receiving an invitation through their respective schools. Saturday and Sunday are for families and other guests to enjoy together.
“The Village is being designed as an event that will provide ongoing adventure and entertainment for the entire family,” said Colusa County Fair CEO Jonathan Howard. “it is also the first of the non-fair or non-farm show events being designed to utilize the County’s great fairground facilities.”
“We’ve made great strides in bringing back the hometown feel of our fairgrounds, and we will be finding ways to showcase it year-round,” he said.
“Pumpkin Village promises to be just one more way we can build on these year-round activities here.”
Although the event is in the planning stages Howard said it has great promise and it is already receiving enthusiastic response and support from the community.
It will transform an area of the fairgrounds into a village with vendors selling fall favorite baked goods and other craft items. There is a long list of games and attractions ranging from vintage style games to corncob shooting and pumpkin painting being planned as well as a carnival ride area.
There will be storytellers including a “fairytale” lady and Supervisor Mark Marshall’s “Old Timer” character sharing historic stories of Colusa County.
The pumpkins and gourds are already planted on the grounds and visitors will have opportunity purchase their holiday items for carving or baking.
There will be a multitude of contests with prizes to be won.
Theme appropriate vendors are welcome and Howard also commented that non-profit groups are invited to participate as well.
The Village project is actively recruiting volunteers such as “actors” for the grounds, guides and overall helpers.
“We will be finalizing our list of needed volunteers and projects and it will available on the Fair website and at the fair office.
