On Wednesday, July 1st, 2015 at approximately 12:00pm residents of Colusa County came together to recognize a group of individuals who have done so much for not only this community, but this country. Veterans of all ages from the Veterans of Foreign War gathered at Safe Have Peer Drop-In Center for some food and good conversation. With over 50 plus participants, Safe Haven was filled with smiling faces, appreciating each other and most importantly learning about each other.
Veterans were asked to share their stories by telling about their experience, number of years they served, what branch, and what rank they held during their service. Out of all the stories shared, the story of a much younger veteran left quite an impact on everyone. He shared openly about his experience and expressed his gratitude in being able to have a place like Safe Haven to come to for support. Another veteran stated that he had heard about Safe Haven before, but really didn’t know much about it and feels that more outreach events like the BBQ should happen so the community can learn more about it.
Safe Haven Peer Drop-In Center would like to thank the following for their support, Les Schwab Tire Center, Behavioral Health Staff, Wells Fargo Bank, Jackpot, Market Street Grill, Colusa County Fairgrounds, Safe Haven Leadership Committee, Safe Haven members, Sav-Mor, and McNary Moore, and Colusa Dairy. Without the support of the community, Safe Haven would not have been able to host such an event.
