The 125th Anniversary of the Daughters of the American Revolution to commence “Salute to the American Flag” project

I hope to get together another article before August 17th regarding our Community Service Project, Salute to the American Flag, in honor of 125th Celebration of DAR.

The Chico Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) donated ten American Flags to schools in Glenn/Colusa and Butte County.

“The five Colusa County Schools selected to receive a new flag and ceremony include Maxwell, Colusa, Arbuckle, Williams and Our Lady of Lourdes,” said Jeanie Kessinger, a member of DAR, “as well as two Glenn County and three Butte County Schools.”

The organization I targeting the seventh and eighth-grade classes.

“We will be working with the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion from each county to take the current flags down from the school site, folded for retirement and presented to principal of the school,” said Kessinger.

“The Veterans will then unfold the new flag and raise it on the flagpole,” Kessinger added.

During the flag ceremony, students will be asked to recite the pledge of allegiance, and the preamble to the constitution.

“We hope we can also get a student to sing the National Anthem,” said Kessinger.

The first project will begin at 8:15 AM on Monday, August 17, 2015, at Johnson Junior High School in Arbuckle CA. Other area school program dates will be released as soon as they are confirmed.
