The Colusa County VFW and the Maxwell American Legion has begun constructing an entry arch into the newly dedicated ‘Veterans Memorial Park’.
“The City of Colusa was so gracious in renaming the downtown Memorial Park to Memorial Park,” said Colusa County VFW Member, Dennis Sanders, “This project solidifies the name and provides a grand entrance to the park.”
Located at the North Eastern Corner, the six pillar archway will be formed out of brick, with a steel archway encompassing the center pillars. In addition to the arch, five military insignias made of cast bronze will embellish the columns along with the MIA-POW, VFW, and American Legion emblems.
“The archway is being constructed with citizen donation and private funds from the Colusa County VFW and the Maxwell American Legion,” said Sanders.
With the cement base formed and set, the Colusa County VFW and Maxwell American Legion Volunteers and a masonry will begin constructing the brick columns on Wednesday.
“The project will be completed by Veterans Day where it will be dedicated,” said Sanders.
Additionally, the two groups are adding nine park benches around the Colusa County Veterans Memorial Wall adding additional seating.
“These benches will provide much-needed seating for events held in the park,” Sanders Commented.
The Veterans Day service and dedication will take place on Wednesday, November 11. Event details will be released once determined.
