The Safe Have Peer Drop-In Center hosted its 5th annual Workforce Education & Training (W.E.T) Action Volunteer end of the year celebration on August 28th, 2015. About 30 volunteers, Behavioral Health Staff, and guests attended the event. The event is held each year in recognition of the volunteers and the hours of service they provide within the county. The volunteers are presented with certificates to celebrate their hard work they put in over the past year.
The WET Volunteer program is supported through the Mental Health Service Act (MHSA) and was first established in the county in 2008. The program has grown to include approximately 26 active volunteers in the county.
The volunteers not only assist in the day to day function of the center as a Greeter, but also participant in events such as Stamp Out Stigma, Veteran’s BBQ, river clean up, and other various community events. The volunteers work in collaboration with other community providers including the Colusa County Fairgrounds and One-Stop. The volunteers are seeking to increase their collaboration within the community as the program continues to grow. This year, the volunteers provided a total of 3,903 hours of service.
The WET program offers various opportunities for consumers to grow in the workforce. Opportunities include, but are not limited to, vocational trainings, educational workshops, and much more.
WET volunteers must be consumers and go through an interview process and fingerprint clearance to be considered for the position. Volunteers who participate as a greeter in the center are given a stipend after completing a total of 8 hours of service.
Thank you again, to all the WET volunteers and non-WET volunteers for all your hard work and contribution to the center. It is greatly appreciated.
