Mary Patricia Critchfield (1953-2015)

OBIT---CritchfieldOn the morning of September 28th, Mary passed away at her home in Colusa, CA after a year long courageous battle with small cell lung cancer.  She had her family at her side when passing at the age of 62.

Mary was born in South Dakota on August 10, 1953. She was the first daughter born to Leo and Patricia Steffes.  She moved to Colusa, CA with her family at a very young age and continued to live here throughout her life.

She graduated from Colusa High School in 1971.  She worked in the bakery at Chung Sun Market in Colusa for years before she started at Colusa Unified School District.  She worked in and ran the cafeteria at Egling Middle School for 25 years.  She loved her job and most enjoyed seeing all her kids everyday.

Mary was a loving mother, sister, and friend.  She touched so many people with her loving and kind heart.  She truly had a heart of gold.  Even through her battle with cancer, she never gave up hope and always had the most positive outlook on life.  Her love for life was contagious to all those around her.

In her spare time she enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.   Her favorite time of the year was baseball season.  She loved watching her San Francisco Giants and was proud to be a Gamer Babe.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Patricia and Leo Steffes of Colusa.  Mary is survived by her daughter Molly Critchfield of Colusa; her sisters, Diane Rew of Tustin, CA. and Julie Dusel of Eureka, CA; her brothers, Tom Steffes and Joe Steffes of Colusa, CA., and Martin Steffes of Wisconsin; along with 9 nieces and nephews.

Mary’s services will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Saturday, October 10th at 11:30am with a reception following at Colusa Golf Course.  There will be a viewing on Friday, October 9th at McNary Moore Funeral Home from 5-8pm, with a rosary starting at 7pm.  There will be a private burial for the family at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Colusa.

The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support that we have received.  Also, a special thank you for the tremendous care that was given from Rideout Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mary Critchfield Memorial Scholarship Fund at your local US Bank branch.■
