After a long and fulfilling life, Justina Robles died peacefully at her home in Grimes, on October 6, 2015 at the age of 100. Justina was born in Irapuato, Mexico on March 17th, 1915, to Jose Maria and Concepcion Mosqueda. She was a resident of Grimes for the past 80 years.
Justina immigrated to the US at the age of 7 and lived with her family in Knights Landing where she met her husband Simon; they were married for 55 years. Justina worked alongside Simon as a partner in managing the Grimes Growers Cooperative while raising their 3 children. At one point, Simon got into the trucking business and Justina obtained her class A license and drove one of the trucks hauling sugar beets, making her one of the first if not the first woman to obtain a class A license in California.
She was strong and not afraid to take on new challenges. Justina was beloved by countless people who came to know her during her long life and she always returned that love with a smile and kindness. People who knew her would tell you that you very seldom saw Justina without a smile on her face. She maintained a deep faith in God even in the most trying times and always felt that something good would come of something bad, truly a most extraordinary woman.
She is survived by her daughter Lupe (Jim), son David (Jeannette); grandchildren Aaron and Lia (John); great grandchildren Daniel and Madison; sisters Nelly and Sarah; daughter-in-law Luz (Simon Jr.); nieces and nephews; extended family, many godsons and goddaughters, as well as scores of people who loved her deeply.
Justina was preceded in death by her husband Simon and their son Simon Jr.
Funeral Mass for Justina will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM, October 14, 2015 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Colusa, CA; followed by a committal service at the Grand Island Cemetery.
