Ag Business Feature: Cortina Hulling and Shelling

In 2009, a group of nine area almond growers identified a need for a custom almond huller and sheller.

That discussion lead to the development of Cortina Hulling and Shelling.

Gary Pronsolino, the General Manager of Cortina Hulling and Shelling, commented that the operation includes both in shell and almond meat kernels as well as drying services.

“We have the latest equipment that can detect color and size aiding in sorting,” said Pronsolino, “we provide the highest quality possible.”

Pronsolino also commented that the operation has a specialized online client portal that allows its customer to track their products through the processing stages.

Cortina Hulling and Shelling currently provides services for almond growers Colusa and Yolo Counties as well as Glenn and Sutter Counties.

Pronsolino commented that the group is currently in the process of expanding and opening an Almond Hulling and Shelling operation in Madison, California.

“The Dunnigan Hills Hulling and Shelling is located off Highway 505,” said Pronsolino, “and will offer similar services as our Cortina plant.”

The Dunnigan Hills Hulling and Shelling operation is expected to be open in August of 2016.
