A dozen community members attended the first planning meeting for the upcoming Colusa Farmers Market season.
“I wanted to hold this meeting to get the suggestions of those who are involved in the event,” said Colusa Farmers Market Volunteer Market Manager, Jennifer Diaz.
Looking to expand the market and to provide much-needed visibility, Diaz introduced the idea of hosting a fundraising dinner in the “farm-to-fork” fashion to help with the associated cost.
“The Farmer’s Market does not have a budget, and isn’t a money maker and many of times I have paid for the promotional items and permit fees myself,” said Diaz.
The market held June through August has had it’s up’s, and down’s of attendance and Diaz hopes that by providing more awareness and signage that it can attract the necessary traffic to make market vendors profitable and wanting to return.
The group discussed various ideas, marketing strategies, and decided on hosting a fundraising event the month of June as a Market fundraiser.
Adjourning with great ideas, Diaz has developed an agenda to move the project forward to ensure the viability in the Colusa Farmers Market.
Another Brainstorming Meeting has been scheduled for 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 10, at Market Street Grill, in Downtown Colusa.
