 Young Adult Author’s Night

The Friends of the Colusa County Library will host an Author’s Evening on Thursday, March 17, 2016 featuring Alexis Bass, Jessica Taylor, and Stephanie Garber. The event will be held at the Colusa County Library, 738 Market Street, Colusa, with refreshments served at 6:30 PM and the presentation beginning at 7:00 PM.

Dixie Swim Club

The Colusa County Stagehands Theater will continue its production of ‘The Dixie Swim Club’ on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 7:15 PM. ‘The Dixie Swim Club’ is a full-fledged plunge into the estrogen ocean, with a distinctive southern twist. Men are nowhere to be seen and are frequently the amusing target of both exasperation and derision. This play has been promised to be hilarious and a real treat by the local theatre group. Bring a friend and enjoy the show! Tickets can be purchased at Messicks Hardware in Colusa for $10. Production will also be held on March 19, and a Matinée on March 13.

Community Yard Sale

The Maxwell Parks and Recreation District will host a Community Yard Sale on Saturday March 19, 2016 from 8 AM to 3 PM at the Maxwell American Legion Hall, 250 Oak Street in Maxwell. Held rain or shine, the cost is $5 for a 10’ x 10’ space that includes 2 tables and chairs. Fee is to be collected during setup on Friday, March 18, 2016 starting at 6:00 PM, and on Saturday March 19 at 7:00 AM. Drawing Class

The Colusa County Arts Council will host a Drawing Class with Kim Rennick on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the Colusa County Arts Council Workroom, 430 Market Street, STE C, in Colusa from 10 AM to Noon. This is a beginning sketching class, that teaches the basics of form, proportion, perspective, and how to train your hand to do what your eye sees by practice and muscle memory. The cost is $15 for members $20 for non-members.

Williams Antique Show

The Williams Antique Show presents twenty dealers offering an array of elegant antiques and collectables attractively displayed, including jewelry, furniture, country wares, linens, books, prints and memorabilia. The event will be held on March 19 and 20, 2016 starting at 10:00 AM at the Sacramento Valley Museum Old Gym (1491 E Street, Williams). Enjoy home cooked meals and pies and gratis rice and beans from local farms. The event is hosted by the Spanish/English Committee of Williams.

Historical Quilt Exhibit

The Sacramento Valley Museum (1491 E Street, Williams) will open its Historical Quilt Exhibit on Saturday, March 19, 2016 starting at 10:00 AM, and on Sunday at 11:00 am. The cost is $5 per person and will feature a number of historical quilts dating back to the late 1800’s.

Uncovered: King Lear

Come Shake Hands with Shakespeare at the Colusa Theater, 513 Market Street, Colusa. On Sunday, March 20, 2016, the Virginia Read group will host the viewing of ‘PBS Shakespeare Uncovered: King Lear’ where Christopher Plummer takes guests on a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the making of King Lear, and the history of this famous tragedy. Soup & Salad Luncheon

The First Presbyterian Church will host a Soup and Salad Luncheon on Sunday, March 20, 2016 starting at 11:30 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, 326 Jay Street, in Colusa. The fundraiser is being held for the Youth Group to attend summer camp. The cost is $8.00.

Succulent Workshop

Williams Kindergarten Registration

Williams Elementary School Kindergarten registration will take place on March 23, 2016 and April 27, 2016.  Children must be five years old on or before September 1, 2016 to enroll in kindergarten for the fall of 2016.  We are also taking registrations for our Transitional Kindergarten Program.  Children for Transitional Kindergarten must be five before December 2, 2016.  The law requires that the parent or guardian present proof of age (birth certificate), a current immunization record, and proof of residency at the time of enrollment.  Please bring your child along with you to the appointment as well.  For school entry, children must have received:  one varicella vaccine, two measles containing vaccines, three Hepatitis B, three polio and four DTP doses, (the last of which must have been received after their fourth birthday). Community Meetings

Colusa County Sheriff Joe Garofalo will host a series of community meetings to discuss crime in the unincorporated areas of the county. The first meeting is scheduled at the Stonyford Grange Hall on Thursday, March 24, 2016, at 6:30 PM. Subsequent meetings are to be held at 6:30 PM at the Maxwell Fire Department, April 7, 2016; Arbuckle Fire Department, April 14, 2016; Grimes Scout Cabin, April 21, 2016; Princeton High School Cafeteria, April 28, 2016. Sheriff’s office personnel and other local Government agencies will be in attendance to help answer any questions you may have. Area residents are invited to attend.

Food Distribution Assistance Program

The Williams Emergency Food Distribution Assistance Program, commodities, site will be at the Williams Fire Department, 810 E Street, until further notice. The program begins at 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on the following dates: March 24, April 28, May 26, June 30, July 28, August 25, September 29, October 27, November 3, and December 29.

 

Comedy Night

The Colusa Rural Fighters presents its 22nd Annual Comedy Night on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the Colusa County Fairgrounds. Save the date and bring a friend! Starting at 5:30 PM, enjoy an evening of great food and laughter with professional comedians. Door prizes will be awarded, and take your chance during the raffle and auction. Tickets are $35 per person, and must be the age of 21 or older to attend. Much Ado About Nothing

Colusa County Economic Development Open House

On Wednesday, April 6, 2016, an economic development open house will be held at 6:00 PM at the Williams Community Center, 860 C Street in Williams. The open house will provide an opportunity to discuss economic growth in our community and funding opportunities for local businesses. Colusa County business owners will share how available funding opportunities have assisted their businesses. Local Lenders will discuss financing options for businesses in any phase; from planning to start-up, to expansion. Kids Art Night

The Williams Community Center, 860 C Street, Williams, will host its monthly ‘Kids Art Night’ on Thursday, April 7, 2016 starting at 5:00 PM. This month’s event will feature ‘Zoo Lovers Day’, a fun animal inspired craft activity. The event is FREE and open to the public. Ideally the event is geared for children aged 4 and older, but the entire family is welcomed to attend. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Tri-Tip Luncheon

On Thursday, April 7, 2016 the Colusa Trinity United Methodist Church will host its Tri-Tip Luncheon from 11 AM to 1 PM. Come enjoy a delicious smoked tri-tip sandwich, chips, cole slaw, and a brownie. Tickets can be purchased from any congregation member for $12. Whole smoked roasts can be purchased for $30. Colusa Flea Market

The Eleanor Acevedo Memorial Youth Empowerment Service (Y.E.S.) will host its annual Flea Market on Saturday, April 9, 2016 from 8AM to 3PM at the Colusa Scout Cabin, 901 Parkhill Street, in Colusa. Call Terri Rivera (530) 216-7708 for information or to rent booth space. There are only 25 spaces available for indoor spaces, and 20 spaces for outdoor. All proceeds to benefit the Y.E.S. Program.

Stonyford Museum

The Stonyford Museum is presenting a colorful and interesting display of whiskey decanters, wine bottles and beer steins for the next three months as the Special Showing display.  Dates will be, April 10th and April 24th   Museum hours are 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.. Attn: all serious collectors.

Friends of the Library Monthly Meeting

The Friends of the Colusa County Library will host their monthly meeting on Monday, April 11, 2016 at the Colusa County Library, Morse Conference Room, 738 Market Street in Colusa starting at Noon.

Boutique & Bake Sale

The Colusa Regional Medical Center Auxiliary will host their annual Spring Boutique and Bake Sale on Friday, April 15, 2106 in the CRMC Lobby. You don’t want to miss this giant sale of homemade pies, cookies, brownies, breads and casseroles donated by volunteers and community members. This one-day sweet-a-thon is hosted between the hours of 8 AM and 4 PM and sells out fast – get their early!

Nature Photography with your Smartphone

The Colusa County Master Gardeners will host a workshop on how to take beautiful pictures with your smart phone on Saturday, April 23, 2016, from 10:00 AM to Noon. The workshop will be held in Williams, at a location to be announced at a later day. Wear comfortable shoes and bring your smartphone. This event is FREE! For information (530) 458-0570.

Williams Spring Fun Run

On Saturday, April 30, 2016 the Williams Running Club will host its annual Spring Fun Run and Walk, with registration starting at 7:30 AM. Beginning at the Williams Unified School District, 260 Eleventh Street, the one-mile walk/run will start at 8:15 AM. The 5K (3.1 mile) run will begin at 8:30 AM and the new 5K 2-Person Relay starts at 8:30 AM. The entry fee is $10 and all proceeds going towards the purchase of a Bulletin Board for the High School Breezeway and to pay for the Running Club Entry Fees. May Suprise

On Saturday, May 7, 2016, various organizations from the Colusa community will host a variety of events to celebrate spring. From 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, come out to Will S. Green Park, located at 10th and Parkhill Street, in Colusa for a plant sale, artisan faire, luncheon, wine tasting, heritage preservation display and awards. Proceeds will benefit the arts, beautification and community service, and literary programs within Colusa County.

Artisan Faire

The Colusa County Arts Council will host its annual Artisan Faire as part of its May Surprise on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the Colusa Scout Cabin, 901 Parkhill Street, in Colusa. There is room for 10 to 14 tables and information is currently being sent to last years participants. Stamp Out Stigma 5K

The Colusa County Department of Behavioral Health will host the community event, Stomp Out Stigma, a mental health awareness and education activity. The event will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 with registration beginning at 9:00 AM. The event is a 5K (3 mile) run or walk through the community of Colusa. The goal is to raise awareness around mental health and to reduce the stigma. The event is FREE; however, raffle tickets can be purchased for the chance to win prizes.  Currently the activity is in planning phases and is seeking  raffle, and cash donations, as well as volunteers; a location will be announced at a later date. CRMC Poker Run

The Colusa Regional Medical Center will be hosting a Poker Run on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Colusa Casino. Registration begins at 8:30 AM, and the first bike out at 10:30 AM. The cost is $25 per driver, $20 per passenger, and $10 for extra hand. The Poker Run starts and ends at Colusa Casino. Cash prizes for the first three best hands. All money raised will benefit the Colusa Regional Medical Center. Stops include: Colusa Casino (Colusa), The Last Stand (Willows), Nancy’s Elkhorn Family Lodge (Elk Creek), Squaw Creek (Lodoga), and Maxwell Inn (Maxwell). For information call (530) 458-5821.

 

Veterans Mental Health Awareness Event

The Colusa County Department of Behavioral Health will celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month with a Veterans Mental Health Awareness Event on Saturday, May 14, 2016, starting at 10:00 AM. Tire Amnesty Days

During the Month of March, Colusa County Residents will be allowed no more than nine (9) tires per user to be disposed of at no charge. The FREE tire disposal is for passenger truck or car tires without rims. The event will be hosted every Saturday during the month of March at the Colusa County Road Department Yard in Williams, located at 5714 E Street. Hours are 8AM to 2PM. For a transportation exemption to carry up to 20 tires or for additional information contact the Colusa County Public Works at (530) 458-0466. The Tire Amnesty Day is sponsored by the County of Colusa and the Rural Counties’ Environmental Services Joint Powers Authority. Funded by a grant from the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle).

Ceramics Class

The Colusa County Arts Council hosts a Ceramics Class with Peter Adams. Hosted on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month from 10 AM to 3 PM. The classes are held in the CCAC Studio located at 430 Market Street Suite C. The cost is $30 per class and a one time materials fee of $7, for more information call (530) 458-2222.

Ukulele Club

Are you looking to play a unique instrument? The Colusa County Arts Council has started hosting a Ukulele club for anyone interested in learning chords, songs, and just have a good time jamming and singing. The group meets weekly on Mondays at the CCAC Arts Council Gallery (430 Market Street, Colusa at 2:30 PM. The Colusa County A starter booklet with chords will be available for those who attend – all you need is a Ukulele;  for more information call (530) 458-2222.

Adult Canteen

The Colusa Adult Canteen is a bi-monthly luncheon held every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month,  from NOON to 1:30 PM. The Adult Canteen is open to all Seniors, 60 years of age or older and held at the United Methodist Church, Friendship Hall, 511 Oak Street, in Colusa. Come enjoy an event just for the seniors in our community – promoting an active lifestyle and an opportunity to socialize with friends and discuss topics over a Pot Luck style lunch with the main course being provided. Colusa County Food Bank

The Impact Thrift Store opens its food bank every Wednesday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM (with the exception of the 4th Wednesday of the month). To qualify for the Impact Thrift Store Food Bank, individuals need to bring Identification, proof of residency (phone or utility bill), and proof of income. Donations to the Impact Life Thrift Store are accepted during store hours or monetary donations can also be made.

Colusa One Stop Services in Williams

Make an appointment or drop in at the Williams Family Action Center, 602 Twelfth Street, Williams, on the 2nd or 4th Wednesday each month to receive the Colusa One Stop services of: Occupational Training, Resumes, Interviewing Techniques, Job Search, Job Fairs Information, Labor Market Information, Employment Assistance, Career Counseling, and EDD Claims Assistance in English or Spanish. Classes begin at 9:00 AM. For information call (530) 473-5400.

Easter Basket Raffle

The Valley West, Relay for Life Team, will be raffling off easter baskets that have been donated by Granzella’s Inc., Fouch & Son Pharmacy and Rite Aid. Tickets are $1 each, or six tickets for $5. Tickets are available to purchase through March 22, from team members Monique, Lisa, Phyllis, Julia or by calling (530) 473-5321. The drawing will be held, March 22, at 2:00 PM and the winner to be announced.

Cal-Fresh Drop-in Assist

Do you need money for food?  The Williams Family Action Center, 602 Twelfth Street, Williams can help you with your CalFresh application. Drop in Mondays from 1 PM to 4 PM and receive a  prescreen, education, and apply for CalFresh!  CalFresh is a food assistance program, formerly known as food stamps, and, if you qualify, will receive a EBT card to assist with food purchases just about anywhere you shop.
