Our hearts are heavy as we grieve the passing of Helen Lucille Shuman, 86. Surrounded by her son LeRoy, daughter-in-law Diane, and granddaughter and caregiver Deanne, in her home of 60 years, Helen passed away peacefully on the morning of April 13, 2016, following a short illness.
Born May 21, 1929, in Marionville, Missouri to E.J. “Pop” and Florence Hampshire, Helen was the fourth of five children. Following the passing of three of her brothers and her mother in 1935, the family moved from Missouri, working their way west, and finally settled in Colusa. In 1945, she met and married Ivan Shuman, with whom she shared her life for the next 36 years until his passing in 1981. Together Helen and Ivan had three sons, Tommy, Bobby, and LeRoy. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Lloyd, Sidney and Joe, a son Bobby (Connie) Shuman and her husband, Ivan Shuman.
She leaves behind her brother Wayne Hampshire of Williams, sister Judy (Mike) Starks of Puyallup, Washington, sister Penny (Rodney) Parks of London, England, sons Tommy (Nannette) of Worland, Wyoming and LeRoy (Diane) of Colusa, eleven grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, and many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be held at Colusa Cemetery, 1974 Wilson Avenue, Colusa at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2016. Services are under the direction of McNary-Moore Funeral Service (530) 458-2111.
