Fireworks at the Colusa Fairgrounds

The annual tradition of fireworks on the 4th of July will continue this year in Colusa, but will return to its original venue; the Colusa County Fairgrounds.

Colusa Fireworks Committee chairman Tom Reische announced this week that the Committee and the Colusa Firefighter’s Association are working in cooperation with the 44th District Agricultural Association (44th DAA) to move the fireworks display to the Fairgrounds.

“The show on the Sacramento River has been a great event for many years, but as the trees along the bank have grown they have begun to block the view of the fireworks,” said Reische.

“After discussing this with Colusa Fair CEO Jonathan Howard we think we have come up with an even better venue for the show by moving it to the fairgrounds,” said Reische.

Howard met with Mathew Gilfillan; from Pyro Spectaculars, the company that provides the fireworks. “Mathew looked over the fairground’s grandstand arena and said that it was a great location where an even bigger fireworks display could be provided.

“This is the best location,” said Reische.  “There is more seating, and the show will be more visible,” he said.

“Sacramento River Fire volunteers will be selling beer and there will also be food concessions the night of the show,” said Howard.

“This is a great way for the community to continue to work with the fair,” added Reische.

The Fireworks show starts at 8:30 p.m. on July 4th in the Fair’s grandstand area.

Reische said that it takes community support to make the local fireworks display possible each year.

“The Colusa Fireworks Committee is asking for financial support in continuing this tradition. The fireworks are provided each year by local contributions,” said Reische adding that Colusa is one of the few remaining communities to provide the 4th of July celebration in honor of the Nation’s Independence.

The Colusa Firefighter’s Association has agreed to utilize their organization for donation purposes. Tax-deductible donation checks may be made payable to the Colusa Fire Fighters Association.
