Free Youth Bowling with Friday Night Live

2016 - Friday Night Live Free Bowling-1

Riverside Lanes and Colusa County Friday Night Live (FNL) are teaming up to provide a positive atmosphere for the county’s youth, and offering a fun activity that doesn’t involve alcohol.

FNL and Riverside lanes are putting on bowling days every other Friday until August 5. The group’s third meeting at the bowling alley will take place this week.

“This is part of our preventative plan, and we have been doing it for about two years,” Colusa County FNL coordinator Mayra Puga said. “We try to do it to give the community a positive alternative to drinking and partying – for an alternative to using alcohol.”

While the FNL is geared toward serving youth, the group’s bowling gatherings at Riverside Lanes are not necessarily restricted to any particular age group.

“We welcome all ages,” Puga said. “Families, older adults – we’ve had some people from Safe Haven that have dropped in. Just show up, bring socks and be ready to have fun.”

The group’s first meeting at the bowling alley this summer only had about 15 people, but that number doubled at the following one. Puga said that she would love to see more participation by the community. In addition to having fun and bowling, the meetings are educational.

Puga shows videos and talks with participants about such topics as bullying and peer pressure, among others. ■
