Trent Mendenhall went 2-3 with three RBIs, Ethan Lay went 2-3 with a walk, and Marcus Sanchez and Keith Chavez each singled in the contest.
Chavez also pitched 4.2 innings with five strikeouts, allowing two runs, only one of which was earned. Colusa was up 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Sanchez took the mound. Sanchez walked three and allowed two hits and three runs – two of which were earned.
Saturday’s game followed a 3-1 loss to the Sutter Buttes All Stars on Thursday. Sanchez pitched two innings, allowing two runs on three hits. Lay pitched three innings in relief, allowing one run on two hits with six strikeouts.
Colusa’s lone run on Thursday came on a Chavez double that scored Emanuel Frias. Chavez went 1-3 at the plate on the day.
The two losses were preceded by wins over Sutter Area and Live Oak.
In their first game of the tournament on July 2, the Colusa All Stars hammered Live Oak, beating them 21-1. In that game, Sanchez went 3-4 with a double, a homerun, four RBIs and 3 runs scored. Frias was 2-3 at the plate with a double and three RBIs. Lay went 2-3 with a triple and three RBIs, two walks, and four runs scored. Luke Kalfsbeek was 2-3 with a double.
Frias pitched three scoreless innings and Trent Mendenhall pitched one, allowing one unearned run.
Facing Sutter Area on July 3, Sanchez was a force at the plate, going 3-4 with two homeruns and three RBIs. Lay was 2-3 on the day, with a double and three runs scored. Lay walked once and reached base after being hit by a pitch. Chavez went 2-4 with two RBIs.
Chavez pitched 3.1 innings, allowing two runs on three hits, with three strikeouts. Lay pitched 2.2 scoreless innings in relief and walked away with the win. Lay struck out six and allowed no hits.■
