Sally George Jones was born in Boise, Idaho on December 28, 1919 to Edith and Fisk George, the 4th of six children. The family moved several times before finally settling in Sacramento in 1933.
She passed away on July 29, 2016.
She attended Sacramento High School, greatly enjoying the frequent “Sock Hops” and graduated in 1937. The next year she attended classes at Sacramento Junior College where she made many additional friends and was elected the Freshman Class Queen. She met Hugh P. Jones and they soon fell in love and were married in 1941. In 1942 Hugh was sent to the Pacific Theater for the duration of WWII. After his return the family moved to Colusa where they made their home in 1947. Sally then became a homemaker. She was a wonderful mother and an excellent cook preparing 3 meals a day for her family for many years. She was very meticulous and quite organized in everything she did in her life. The family’s annual summer vacations to the Sierras and Santa Cruz always went with precision.
Although she dedicated her life to raising her family, she had numerous interests including gardening, cooking and visiting San Francisco. She loved playing bridge and dominoes but probably most of all golf, which she enjoyed into her early nineties. She was a charter member of Colusa and Spyglass Hill golf clubs as well as a member at Peach Tree, Lake Wildwood and Mission Hills golf clubs at various times. She was also an active member of the local chapter of the Omega Nu sorority for many years. Throughout her life in Colusa she enjoyed learning about local agriculture and wildlife taking frequent after dinner rides. Sally was quite faithful to her friends and looked in on them frequently in their later years.
Sally will always be remembered as being friendly, stylish and dignified and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, all of her siblings and her beloved husband Hugh. She is survived by her daughters Sally Paul (Don Ferraiuolo) of Winters, Becky Dolstra (Bill) of Lodi and her son Dave (Kathy) of Roseville, along with 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
