Harold passed away on August 10, 2016, at the age of 94. A California native, he grew up on dairies in Chico and the Colusa County area before moving to Sacramento to attend Heald’s Business College.
After graduating he enlisted in the Army where he attained the rank of Master Sergeant in the 48th Ordnance Battalion. During his WWII service in the European Theatre he landed on the beachhead at Normandy on D-Day+2 and later was in the Battle of the Bulge. Though encouraged by his superior officer to remain in the military, Harold decided to return to California.
He settled in San Francisco and for the next 35 years worked for Western Pacific Railroad where he became Manager of Budget Administration. After retiring Harold moved from his home in Atherton to Fair Oaks near his family. Once in the Sacramento area, he pursued his interest in real estate investment and built a successful business acquiring residential property.
Over the years, Harold enjoyed gardening, dancing, playing the piano, writing, and sports.
And he loved being with people. His home was always open to family, friends, and neighbors, and because he was unfailingly supportive and had a wonderful sense of humor and a vivacious spirit, Harold was cherished by all who knew him. He will be dearly missed and forever loved by his sister Dolly Oswald, his many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. His beloved brothers Bill and Donald and his sister Helen Ceccon preceded him in death.
Special thanks to Jan Mc Mahon, R.N., Viliame Ramanakiwai and Kini Karavaki for their outstanding care and friendship.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 25, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maxwell, California.<
