Irene Azevedo Gaytan (“Guy e tawn”), a long-time resident of Colusa, California passed to Heaven on August 24, 2016, at Woodland Nursing and Rehab Center in Woodland, Ca.
Irene was born in Woodland on January 10, 1933, and was the first of 17 children born to Mariano P. Azevedo and Eleanor Castanon Azevedo of Colusa. Irene was raised by her paternal grandmother, Pabla Azevedo Lopez and Ramon Lopez in Woodland.
Irene was married to Eleno (“Pancho”) Gaytan, who predeceased her.
Irene loved good music, good food, and living “La Vida Loca.” Most of all, she was very kind, and she loved her children with all her might.
She is survived by her beloved daughter Irene (Alfredo) Calderon of Woodland. She is also survived by her sons Mario of Oakland) and Louie (Anna) of San Antonio, Tx, as well as her foster son Mike Hurtado (Tina) of Heavenly Valley.
Sadly, Irene was predeceased by her sons Billy, Ruben, and Joey. She had also lost her sister Helen Azevedo Garcia, and brothers, Leonard, Ben, Rudy, and Ceasar.
Irene leaves her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and “1,000” nieces, and nephews.
Irene also leaves her grieving siblings Rosie Cordova (Stockton), Pauline Mojica (Williams), Mary Ann (Chuck) Arceo (Menlo Park), Connie Shuman (Williams), Barbara Azevedo (Citrus Heights), Elizabeth Azevedo, (Colusa) , Narsie Azevedo (Colusa), Terri (Raul) Rivera (Colusa), David (Yogi) (Woodland), and Frank (Williams).
Irene was quite a woman ~~ A Proud Americana/Mexicana! One of her favorite lines was, “Ask me no questions, and I will tell you no lies!”
Services will be held on Friday, September 2, 2016, starting with a visitation at 9:00, followed with a Rosary at 10:00 a.m. Burial to follow at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery after the service.
After the burial, there will be a gathering at the Azevedo family home, 100 Lodi Lane, Colusa. Contact number is (530)-458-8141.
