Master Gardeners Host “Make and Take Succulent Class”

dsc04001The Colusa County Master Gardeners hosted a special class demonstrating how versatile succulents can be in the garden.
With about 21 attendees, the Colusa Master Gardeners discussed the care of succulents as demonstrated hands on how to plant succulents.
“Everyone was shown the basics of ‘thriller, filler, and spiller,’” said Master Gardener Gerry Hernandez.
‘Thriller, filler, and spiller’ are references to roles the plants play in a pot.
“You first want to plant your tall more showy succulents, the fill in with smaller plants, and choose some succulents that can spill over the side,” said Hernandez.
Most attendees were first timers while others were returning for a second lesson.
“This was my first succulent workshop,” said Annelie Lauwerijssen. “I thoroughly enjoyed it and learned quite a bit.”
