Pioneer Review to host Maxwell Candidates Night

In an effort to keep the community informed, the Williams Pioneer Review will host a Candidates Night on Thursday, Oct. 20, at the American Legion Hall in Maxwell. The candidates night will feature the District 4 County Supervisor Candidates: Susan Meeker and Incumbent Gary Evans, and provide an opportunity for Maxwell Unified School District Candidates and Maxwell Public Utility District Candidate to speak on their positions.

Doors will open at 6:30 PM and the forum begins at 7 PM. The forum will run an alternate format.

Candidates running unopposed will be given the opportunity to speak for a maximum of 5 minutes on topics they see are appropriate for their office. There will be no questions and answer period for candidates running unopposed due to time. Candidates running with opposition will be given the opportunity to provide an opening statement of their choice for a maximum of 5 minutes. Candidates must keep this talk cordial and on topic with issues facing their elected seat. This is not a debate; candidates who rebut or verbally attack an opposing candidate will lose time privilege. Each candidate will be asked to provide three topics of choice prior to the event. The administrative staff at the Williams Pioneer Review will then develop three to five questions from these topics. Each candidate will be given 2 minutes to respond to topics assembled by the Williams Pioneer Review. Following each topic, the moderator will solicit written questions from the public from the topic. A total of three questions will be relayed to the candidates. Each candidate will be given 2-minutes to respond to each question. Should the public have no questions on a topic, the candidates will be given an additional two minutes to respond. The moderator has the right to reject or edit questions submitted by the public.

The forum is scheduled to last no longer than 1 hour and 30 minutes and will end promptly at 8:30 PM. Candidates will have the opportunity to talk with the public following the forum. Doors close at 9 PM.

The Williams Pioneer Review would like to thank the Maxwell Parks and Recreations District and the Maxwell American Legion for their assistance and use of facilities and equipment.
