John Alexander Soares (1931-2016)

obit-john-a-soaresJohn Alexander Soares died peacefully in his home on October 14th in Colusa at the age of 85.

John is survived by his wife Frances, with whom he celebrated fifty years of marriage, and his children Florence and John.

John was born in 1931 in Ripon, CA.  He graduated from Turlock High School and then went on to Modesto Junior College where he earned a degree in Animal Husbandry.

He served in the US Army where he attained the rank of sergeant in the Signal Corps.  After his military service, he entered the agricultural business where he exceled.  John even had a hand in creating a new variety of lettuce.

After years in the seed business, John went to work at Pirelli Cable; a job he had for many years.  After retiring from Pirelli, he spent his time gardening, watching sports and always finding work to keep himself busy.

A graveside service is scheduled for 11:00am on October 29th at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 6700 21st Ave. Sacramento, CA.  There will be a reception to follow at AMVETS Hall, 7215 Lindale Dr. Sacramento, CA.
