Literacy & the Arts

Funky Junk After School Craft Program: Children will have the opportunity to learn the art of upcycling, recycling and repurpsiong ordinary items into artistic masterpieces. Paper Rose Craft Workshop: Stop and smell the roses. Master paper rose crafter, Amanda Taylor will assist all ages in the art of creating a Christmas Bouquet. All materials supplied, free of charge. Held at 10 AM to Noon, on Saturday, Dec. 10. The event will be held at the Colusa County Library, 738 Market St., Colusa.

Rocco’s Paint & Sip: Come enjoy an evening of painting, wine and good company. Wed. Dec. 7, at 6 PM will be painting a Holiday Martini Glass • Tues. Dec. 13, at 6 PM will be painting a Cowboy Santa. Lady Bug Rock Painting: From 10 AM to Noon, the Colusa County Master Gardner’s will host a Rock and Pine Cone painting workshop. The event will be held at the Colusa County Library, 738 Market St., Colusa.

Colusa Arts Council Ceramics Class: The Colusa County Arts Council will host a ceramics class on the first and third Saturday of each month. Classes are held at 430 Market Street, in Colusa. CCAC Ukulele Club: The Colusa County Arts Council will host its weekly Ukulele Club on Mondays at 3 PM. Anyone interested in learning chords, songs, and just have a good time jamming and singing is invited to attend. For more information call (530) 458-2222.

Senior Events

Senior Lunch Program: held weekly on Wednesday at noon at the Colusa Scout Cabin, 901 Parkhill St., Colusa.

Adult Canteen: In November and December, the Adult Canteen will be held on the first and third Fridays to not conflict with the holidays. Upcoming times and dates are 12 PM, Friday, Nov. 18, and Dec. 2 and 16, at the United Methodist Church, Friendship Hall, 5th and Oak Sts., Colusa. The Adult Canteen is open to all Seniors, 60 years of age or older. The cost is $2.00 if you bring a side dish and $4.00 without. For more information (530) 458-4941, ext. 108.

Community Events

Pearl Harbor Ceremony: The Colusa VFW, and the Maxwell American Legion will host a Pearl Harbor Day Ceremony at 10 AM on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at Veterans Memorial Park in Colusa.

Craft Fair and Pancake Breakfast: The Williams Community Church will host their annual Craft Fair and Pancake Breakfast at 7 AM to 11 AM on Saturday, Dec. 10. The church is located at the corner of Ninth and C Streets in Williams.

Colusa County Youth Shooting Sports: The CCYSS will hold a meet the team, and a day full of trap shooting and BBQ. The event will be held at 10 AM on Sunday, Dec. 11. Colusa County Department of Agriculture Annual Grower Meeting: Wednesday, Dec. 7, at the Colusa County Fairgrounds, Atwood Hall, 1303 10th St., Colusa. Registration begins at 7:30 AM. Topics to be discussed include the pesticide program update, irrigated lands regulatory program update, pesticides near schools, groundwater update, safe applications near sensitive areas, ag burn update, and the Carl Moyer program, as well as the pesticide safety education and DOT regulations for hazardous material transportation. This event is approved for the continuing education hours. Private applicators whose certificates expire on Dec. 31, 2016, are encouraged to attend. For more information call (530) 458-0580.

Wine Tasting at the Tap Room: The Tap Room at ColUSA Made will feature Organic Roots Olive Oil and New Clairvaux Vineyard at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, Dec. 13. The Tap Room is located at 121 8th St, Colusa.

Holiday Memorial Candle Lighting Ceremony: McNary Moore Funeral Services invites anyone grieving during the holiday season to light a candle in a loved ones memory during this special event. Operation Believe: will host a showing of  ‘Polar Express’ at Stagehands Theater, at the Colusa County Fairgrounds, on Sunday, Dec. 18. Santa Claus and a art project will be held at 2 PM, and the movie begins at 4 PM. The project benefits the Colusa High School Seniors. Seats are limited and pajama attire is encouraged.

Community Christmas Choir: All performances commence at 7 PM. Monday, Dec. 19 at the Arbuckle United Methodist Church, 9th and Pendleton Sts. in Arbuckle. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at the Colusa Assembly of God, 1747 Highway 20 in Colusa. Thursday, Dec. 22 at the Grimes Community Church, HWY 45 at Main St., in Grimes.

Child Passenger Safety Classes: Registration must take place at least one week prior to the date of the class. Children are not allowed to attend this class. Crab & Tri-tip Feed Casino Night: Benefiting the Pierce Pride Foundation, a crab, shrimp, tri-tip, salad, and bread will be served for $55 a person. The dinner will start with cocktail hour at 6 PM and dinner served at 7 PM, on Saturday, Feb. 4. At 8 PM a Raffle, and casino styled games will be available with dancing. Youth Basketball Signups: The Williams Parks and Recreations will hold basketball sign ups through Jan. 13. Available during business hours at Williams City Hall. Available to children in 4th through 6th Grade. Cost is $35 per child. Evening sign ups on Dec. 13 and 14, and on Jan 13 from 6 PM to 8 PM at Williams City Hall. Games to begin Feb. 4.

One Stop Employment Service: Make an appointment or drop in at the Williams Family Action Center, 602 Twelfth Street, Williams, on the 2nd or 4th Wednesday each month to receive the Colusa One Stop services of: Occupational Training, Resumes, Interviewing Techniques, Job Search, Job Fairs Information, Labor Market Information, Employment Assistance, Career Counseling, and EDD Claims Assistance in English or Spanish. A Hand up Meals for the Hungry: The Colusa Presbyterian Church, 4th and Jay Sts., Colusa, will host Lunch for the Hungry weekly on Monday at 11:30 AM, and Dinner is served weekly on Wednesday and Friday at 5 PM.

County Food Bank: The Impact Thrift Store opens its food bank every Wednesday from 9 AM to 3 PM (with the exception of the 4th Wednesday of the month). To qualify for the Impact Thrift Store Food Bank, individuals need to bring Identification, proof of residency (phone or utility bill), and evidence of income. Donations to the Impact Life Thrift Store are accepted during store hours, and monetary donations can also be made.

Food Distribution Assistance: The Williams Emergency Food Distribution Assistance Program commodities site will be at the Williams Fire Department, 810 E St., until further notice. The program runs 9 to 11 AM on the following dates: Sept. 29, Oct. 27, Nov. 3, and Dec. 29.

Boy Scouts: All meetings start at 6 PM at the Scout Cabin, 901 Parkhill in Colusa. Grades 1-3: Dec. 8, Feb. 9, March 9, and April 13. Grades 4-5: Feb. 2, Mar. 2, Apr. 6. On Jan. 6, all grades will meet for the annual Rain Gutter Regatta.  On Feb. 23, all grades will meet for the Blue and Gold celebration. On March 23, all will grades will meet for the pinewood derby. On April 27, the final meeting of the year.
