For the last eight years, Jennifer Thompson and her two children, Lily and Mia, have called Colusa home.
Born in Santa Rosa in 1987, Thompson grew up with big city living. After receiving her GED, she enrolled in the Army Reserves and was stationed in Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
“I chose the Army reserves for a change of pace and find a new direction,” said Thompson.
While at Fort Jackson, she was trained as an automated logistics specialist and worked in the motor pool. After eight weeks in South Carolina, Thompson was transfered to Fort Lee, Virginia, where she obtained her job classification and later returned to Santa.
In 2009, Thompson was reunited with a an old family friend and moved to Colusa where she adjusted to small town life.
“I grew up in a big town with over 100,000 residents and moving to a small town was just the change I was looking for,” said Thompson.
Thompson currently works at Williams Unified School District as an Assistant Cook.
“I enjoy my job and love the fact I am off work before my girls are out of school,” said Thompson.
Thompson plans to return to college to finish working on her AA in corrections.
As for the girl from the big city, she now loves living in Colusa.
“This small town has grown on me. Its a nice place to raise my daughters,” said Thompson
Thompson’s favorite Colusa event is Christmas Tyme.
“I love to see a community come together and celebrate the holidays and watch the local vendors support the community,” she said. ■
