Major injuries in I-5 Collision.

A 32-year-old Chico man is recovering after sustaining major injuries from a vehicle collision on Interstate 5 just north of Hahn Rd. in Arbuckle.

At approximately 9:30 PM on Saturday, Jan. 14, the California Highway Patrol reported the Chico man was driving a 1999 Dodge Dakota Pickup northbound when for unknown reasons he allowed the front of his vehicle to collide with the rear end of a flatbed trailer powered by a 2013 Dodge Ram.

The collision caused both drivers to lose control and leave the roadway, the CHP said.

According to the report, the Dodge Ram came to rest on the right shoulder while the Dodge Dakota traveled across the right shoulder, through a metal wire fence, and into an orchard where it collided head-on with a tree.

A ground ambulance transported the driver of the Dodge Dakota to Rideout Hospital in Marysville. Due to the extent of his injuries, he was transported to UC Davis Medical Center.

The collision is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.
