Two injured in Monday collision

Two individuals were rushed to the hospital following a T-bone type collision that occurred on the Highway 20 overpass at Interstate 5.

Deputies said the incident happened just after 3:30 PM on Monday, Jan 16, when the driver of a 2011 Chevy Malibu exited off the interstate into the oncoming path of a 2003 Chevy Astro Van.

“The driver of the Malibu said in a statement that he came to a complete stop at the off ramp and did not see the oncoming van,” said Lt. Ed Anderson of the Williams Police Department. Subsequently, the van collided with the car.

The driver of the Malibu was identified as Issac Black, 18, of Rancho Cordova.

“Black and his passenger were not injured due to the crash,” said Lt. Anderson.

The driver of the Astro van was identified as Juan Jacome-Cabal, 29, of Yuba City.

“There were seven passengers in the van and several sustained injuries from minor to moderate injuries,” said Lt. Anderson.

According to Anderson, two of the seven occupants were taken to nearby medical facilities for minor to moderate injuries.

Lt. Anderson added that he encourages everyone to drive safely during inclement weather.

“Vehicle collisions significantly increase during wet, icy or snowy conditions,” he said. “The conditions can make it harder to stop, steer and slow down. So please drive safely, responsibly and always to the conditions of the road.”
