During its annual fundraising dinner Saturday, the Maxwell Fire Department awarded Armando Rolon with its honorary Fireman of the Year Award. Rolon has been a volunteer with the department for the last 12 years.
“It was a big surprise,” said Rolon. “It felt great to be awarded such an honor.”
Rolon joined the fire department for his passion for helping people and to help bridge a gap between the community and the fire department with his fluency in Spanish.
“I want to thank Gary and Jason Bowen for helping me get involved with Maxwell Fire Department,” said Rolon. “I am excited to be a part of a helpful organization.”
Maxwell’s Fireman of the Year was first awarded in 2001 to Gary Bowen. Since then the award is chosen by a committee and become a tradition at the Maxwell crab feed.
