Billiejean McElroy Durst, born July 30, 1927 in Willows, CA to Ernest and Leslie McElroy, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2017 in Marysville, CA.
Billiejean graduated from Grimes Grand Island Elementary School and Holy Rosary Academy in Woodland, CA. She then attended Holy Names College in 1949 where she achieved her BA degree. She went on to U.C. Berkeley graduate school where she achieved her teaching credential and then her Masters Degree in education with emphases on Counseling, Guidance and Pupil Personnel Services. Billiejean then began her teaching and counseling career first at Westwood Jr., Sr. High School from 1950-1952. She then went on to Quincy Jr., Sr. High School from 1952-1958. Then finishing her career at Chico High School from 1961-1993.
Billiejean was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Beta Sigma Phi, Colusa Historical Society, and Grimes Ladies Aide. She was an avid traveler and visited all 7 Continents. She enjoyed the symphony, and visiting her cabin in Chester.
She is survived by her nieces Joy Hawley, Jill Rablin, Tina Cremo and nephew Kent Gross. Billiejean was preceded in death by her loving husband of 37 years Lloyd Durst.
A visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00p.m. Sunday January 22nd at the McNary-Moore Chapel 107 5th Street Colusa, CA 95932. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, January 23rd at 11:00a.m. also at the McNary Moore Chapel. Burial services will follow at the Grand Island Cemetery in Grimes, CA
