Anna Lou Kaelin, 79, passed away peacefully on February 28th, 2017, at her home in Woodland. Anna Lou is survived by her sister Barbara Bailey of Colusa, brother Louie Kaelin of Colusa, niece Camie Kaelin (Blaine Martin) of Colusa, nephews Duffy Bailey (Tiffany) of Arbuckle, Daniel Bailey (Lisa) of Colusa, Richard Kaelin (Natasha Chen) of Walnut Creek, and great nieces and nephews Kelsey, Cally, Cody, Hayden, and Alec Bailey.
Anna Lou was born in Arbuckle, CA, on May 23, 1937, to Louis and Anna Kaelin. She grew up in Grimes, CA, and attended Grimes Elementary and Pierce High Schools. After graduating high school, Anna Lou went on to attend College of the Pacific, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree, and then Sacramento State University, where she earned a Master’s degree in Reading. Anna Lou taught for 33 years in the Rio Linda Unified School District as a classroom teacher, and later, a Miller Unruh Reading Specialist.
While at College of the Pacific Anna Lou was a member of the Epsilon Sorority, which later went international, becoming the Delta Gamma Sorority. In her youth Anna Lou was active in 4-H, showing Southdown sheep and registered Hereford cattle at the county and state fair levels. She enjoyed a trip to Europe, often traveling to Reno with her parents, playing Bridge with friends, and entertaining her niece and nephews each summer at her home in Carmichael as they were growing up.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 10th at 11:00 AM at the College City Cemetery, 689 College City Rd., College City CA. A reception in celebration of Anna Lou’s life will follow at 12:00 PM at the Kaelin Family Ranch, 217 Grevie Road, Arbuckle, CA.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Anna Lou’s name to either the College City Cemetery Support Group, P.O. Box 311, Arbuckle, CA, 95912 or Grimes Civic Association, P.O. Box 202, Grimes, CA, 95950.
