Alleged killer scheduled to enter plea on August 16

Daniel Robleto

Daniel Albert Robleto, the 54-year-old man accused of killing a Butte County woman and dropping her body in Colusa County, appeared in the Colusa County Superior Court for the second time last Wednesday.
Robleto, who was scheduled to enter a plea last week, first appeared during his arraignment on July 5, when attorney Albert Smith was appointed as his public defender. Robleto did not enter a plea last week, but is scheduled to do so when he appears in court on Aug. 16.
Robleto is accused of killing Lisa Marie Madrid, 52, whose body was discovered by an agricultural worker on June 29 on Harbison Road, about a mile west of Highway 45 in Colusa County. Robleto was arrested during a traffic stop the following afternoon in Lake County. According to the Colusa County District Attorney’s Office, he was driving a vehicle belonging to the victim. Robleto was arrested a little over 30 hours after Colusa County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the report of a deceased woman. The Colusa County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Clear Lake Police Department, Paradise Police Deparment, and the California Department of Justice Crime Lab, and Colusa County District Attorney Matthew Beauchamp said evidence was collected in both Lake and Butte Counties.
Officials are not releasing any more information regarding the alleged crime, citing an ongoing investigation.
Robleto was initially going to be charged in Butte County, where the murder allegedly occurred, but Beauchamp said that his office would be prosecuting the case in Colusa County “because of the location of the body in Colusa County, the physical evidence obtained, and the extensive investigation performed by Colusa County Law Enforcement.”
Robleto was transferred from the Butte County Jail to Colusa County on July 3. He remains there and is being held without bail. ■
