With six volunteers and pounds of hot and ready spaghetti, Maxwell Parks and Recreation raised over $650 last Friday evening.
“This fundraiser will benefit our general funds. These funds allow us to bring fun activities to the community,” said President Randy Wilkins
Parks and Recreation started the spaghetti fundraiser last year with a total of 98 dinners served. With that in mind, they prepared around 100 meals for this year’s event.
“We had a total of 28 pre-sale dinners this year, which is about the same as last year. Most of our dinners are served on a walk-in basis,” said Wilkins.
The $10 dinner included spaghetti, garlic bread, salad and a chocolate chip cookie. Miss Colusa County, Hannah Azevedo delivered several dinners for those who made the request.
“I was honored to help out with our community event and had a lot of fun visiting with town residents,” said Azevedo.
In addition to raising money for Parks and Recreation, a school supply drive was also held.
“The supplies donated tonight will benefit students K through 12. Teachers can administer as they see needed,” said Wilkins.
As the night came to an end, a total of 68 dinners were purchased. The remaining meals were donated to the Maxwell Fire Department.
“I think our numbers were down a little from last year due to families being on last minute vacations before school starts,” said volunteer Samantha Wilkins.
Maxwell Parks and Recreation will be hosting “Free Family Movie Night” this Friday, Aug. 11, just one of many fun activities supported from these fundraisers. ■
