Panthers volleyball beats Princeton to open season

The Maxwell Panthers volleyball team opened their season with a 3-0 match win over the Princeton Eagles last Thursday night.

The Panthers took an early lead in all three matches and kept the same pace throughout, with match scores of 25-5, 25-20, 25-8.

The Panthers controlled the scoreboard during all three matches and had a team total of 17 aces during the game.

Senior Brenda Cano, assisted by Senior Hannah Azevedo, led the offensive line at the net with a total of 9 kills. Senior Makayla Mitchell contributed 5 kills and 3 solo blocks. Senior Grace Waddell and Junior Cassie Jauregui tightened the Panthers defense, each with 8 service receptions.

“Any coach would be proud of a win, but it was especially enjoyable to watch the girls get fired up and release their competitive juices. They were powerful, strong, and assertive. The girls maintained both self-control and perspective throughout the game, showing a lot of maturity. I look forward to watching them grow throughout the season,” said Coach Reynoso for the Panthers.

The Panthers (1-0) will host the Yellowjackets (1-3) next Thursday in Maxwell with a 5:30 game time.
