For the month of October, Colusa County businesses and organizations will have the opportunity to charm the streets of Arbuckle, Colusa, Maxwell, and Williams with artistic, creative, and lively scarecrow displays that will be sure to delight locals and visitors alike.
The annual Scarecrow Contest is hosted by the Pioneer Review in cooperation with the Colusa County Fairgrounds Pumpkin Village.
Scarecrows must be set up no later than Monday, Oct. 9, and be on display through Oct. 31. Businesses must register their scarecrow with the Pioneer Review by 5 PM, Wednesday, Oct. 4. There is no entry fee.
Entrants will be assigned a voting number to attach to their scarecrow upon submitting a completed application. Once the business’ Scarecrow is set up, they should call the Pioneer Review and a reporter will come take a photo
of the entry for display in the newspaper and for people’s choice judging online.
Winning scarecrows will be selected both by a panel of judges and by popular vote of visitors and locals. Judges will vote on each scarecrow based on creativity, use of materials, and overall presentation.
Judges’ favorite will receive a trophy and a prize, and the Popular vote winner will receive a trophy and a prize.
Voting on favorite scarecrows will be open to the public starting Monday, Oct. 16, through Friday, Oct. 27, online at colusacountynews.com. Winners will be announced Nov. 1.
Entry forms can be obtained at the Pioneer Review, 611 Bridge Street, Colusa, or email firstname.lastname@example.org or online at colusacountynews.com. Registration is open until Wednesday, Oct. 4. ■
