Arts Council to host works by Brendan Farrel

The Colusa County Arts Council will be featuring the artwork of a Colusa resident Thursday, Nov. 16, from 5 PM to 7 PM.

Colusa resident Brendan Farrel will feature his unique collection of abstract art using mixed media.

“I like art that has bright colors, good looking and has a sense of style,” said Farrel. “I don’t care for contemporary art.”

Growing up in the San Fernando Valley, Farrel found himself taking art classes and always doodling.

“I had family members who were artists,” said Farrel. “I started to paint when I was 22, after taking an art class for fun.”

Farrel commented that his work is unique and has a graffiti-like element to it. “I like stained glass, and my art has a similar feel,” he said.

“I enjoy works from Jean-Michel Basquiat and the outline style of Vincent van Gogh,” he said.

Farrel’s work is painted on old scrap pieces of wood, cabinets, fence posts, and much more.

The Colusa County Arts Council invites everyone to see Farrel’s work on Thursday, Nov. 16, from 5 PM to 7 PM at in the council’s gallery, 151 Fifth St. in Colusa.
