A Colusa woman is dead and two Orland residents were sent to the hospital as a result of a three-vehicle collision west of the town of Maxwell.
Jennifer Burnett, 45, of Colusa, was killed on Monday afternoon when her 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass was struck head-on by a 2002 GMC Yukon driven by Yuri Garcia, 34, of Orland.
According to the California Highway Patrol, at about 3:45 PM, Garcia was driving eastbound on Maxwell-Colusa Road, and was approaching Four Mile Road when she rear-ended another vehicle – a 2016 Chevrolet Impala driven by Albert Tindel, 46, of Fairfield. Garcia’s car then drifted into the westbound lane of traffic and struck Burnett’s vehicle head-on.
CHP said that Tindle had activated his left turn signal and slowed to make a left turn onto a private road, and that “due to (Garcia) failing to drive (her vehicle) at a safe speed for changing traffic conditions directly ahead of her location, (she) was unable to slow her vehicle.”
Garcia and a 16-year-old passenger were transported to Rideout Hospital for treatment of minor to moderate injuries. Tindel escaped the collision without injuries. ■
