Brian Howard Shellnut, 57 of Woodland, CA, passed away at his home on October 14, 2017 after a yearlong battle with duodenal cancer.
He was born July 12, 1960 in Ventura, CA. to Larry and Peggy Shellnut and was a 1978 graduate of Ventura High School. Following graduation from Humboldt State University he began his 30 year career as a teacher for the Williams School District.
Mr. Shellnut was a beloved teacher and coach inspiring young lives in all grades from elementary, middle and high school. He coached football for over 20 years and won multiple championships. He was a creative teacher, fantastic artist and an avid medieval enthusiast. His compassion, dedication and creativity should be a standard for others that follow in his footsteps.
In 1982, Brian joined the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), a nonprofit medieval historical society specializing in full-contact medieval fighting. In the SCA he was larger than life, and in that community Sir Obadiah the Obstreperous (Ob) will be sorely and forever missed; a man loved by all men, a man with a big smile and even bigger heart, a laugh that could light up any room.
His is survived by his children Cameron Shellnut (18), Annie Koontz (15), Brayden Koontz (13). His parents Larry and Peggy Shellnut. His brother Mark Shellnut and wife Teresa. His sister Jo Shellnut Buehler and husband Randy. Nephews Bradley Shellnut, Matthew Shellnut and Avery Buehler and niece Kyra Buehler. He is proceeded in death by his wife Kelli Jensen Shellnut, who passed away in 2008.
A Celebration of Life was held on October 20 at Nelson’s Grove in Woodland, CA
