Colusa Christmas decorating contest getting underway

Businesses in the City of Colusa are joining in on the holiday fun and making downtown Colusa a sight to see with the return of its annual holiday business decorating contest.

Gerry Hernandez, a Colusa County Master Gardener, has hosted the event the past couple of years and invites locals and visitors to come downtown to enjoy the festive displays.

“The holiday decorating contest is a fun way to celebrate the holiday season,” said Hernandez. “It’s a way to create a little friendly, and festive competition to fill our town with the holiday spirit.”

Participating businesses must have their holiday decorations complete, and an application submitted by Nov. 29 as judging begins at 10 AM on Dec. 1. There is no cost to enter the competition.

During the contest, a panel of judges will walk the businesses to determine which business has best captured the holiday spirit, Hernandez said.

She added that the competition would award a certificate for the most classic, creative, business, whimsical, and judges choice in three categories: Christmas tree, window display, and decorated door.

Winners of the contest are announced on Dec. 1. ■
