Colusa Medical Center passes inspection, will open on Thursday

At long last, 585 days after Colusa Regional Medical Center closed its doors, Colusa County has a hospital again.

The Colusa Medical Center passed its California Department of Public Health licensing inspection on the second try, and it will open its doors on Thursday, Gia Smith, CEO of American Specialty Healthcare Inc., said.

The inspection took place over the course of two days and wrapped up on Tuesday afternoon. This time around, there were no issues with missing medications, and the hospital received the green light.

“We are so excited to bring Colusa Medical Center to the community,” Smith said. “It’s been a long road. We had a lot of hurdles that we had to go over. So with those hurdles, we feel humble and we appreciate that we’re able to bring these services back to the community… We’re grateful to the congressmen and legislators, and people in our Colusa area that have been behind us 150 percent in order for this to happen.”

“We’re ecstatic,” said Supervisor John Loudon, who out of town at a meeting with Supervisor Kent Boes and Colusa County CAO Wendy Tyler when the trio heard the news. “We couldn’t be happier.”

When it opens on Thursday, the hospital will be offering basic emergency room services, medical/surgical services, and nursing services, Smith said.

“We’re gradually going to add the outpatient services – as far as CT scans, labs, and things like that – will be gradually added, and we will keep the community posted as we do. It’ll be all be added by at least the beginning of the year,” she added.

An open house and ribbon cutting are scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 5 PM.
