The California Highway Patrol is asking the public’s help as they investigate a single-vehicle crash Sunday night on Interstate 5 that killed a 24-year-old College City man.
The CHP suspect alcohol may have been a reason for Michael Villanueva to lose control of his 2001 Dodge 1500 Dodge pick-up, but they are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or have any information that may be helpful to come forward.
The CHP said Villanueva was driving southbound on I-5, just north of Greenbay Road, around 9:25 PM, when, for yet unknown reasons, he lost control of his vehicle and traveled onto the west dirt and gravel shoulder, where his vehicle collided into the barbed wire fence that divides I-5 from Gabby Road.
Although the CHP indicated Villanueva might have been wearing a seat belt, the impact of this collision caused the Dodge to overturn, ejecting him out the left front driver-side window, causing the fatal injuries.
The Colusa County Coroner’s Office investigation results are still pending at this time, the CHP said, but anyone with information is asked to call the Williams CHP office at (530) 473-2821. ■
