The Pierce Junior Bears Cheer Squad has the opportunity to compete in the 2018 National Cheer 2018 JAMZ Youth Nationals in Las Vegas, and they are seeking donations from the community to make it happen.
Over the past several weeks, the group has been actively fundraising to raise the money necessary for their trip to Nationals. These events included Christmas Tyme in Colusa, and at the Festival of Lights in Williams.
“Upcoming events include a bake sale Dec. 16 at Maxwell’s Country Christmas and a large raffle drawing which includes: 58” TV with wireless surround sound, a family four pack for day at Pier 39, a trip to Reno, a one time cleaning from American Maid and a mini photo session,” said Michelle Oviedo, Cheer coach and coordinator. “We are also taking donations and looking into other fundraising options.”
The costs include a $100 per participant registration fee, as well as uniforms, hotel accommodations and meals.
The youth cheerleaders, aged 5-14, are from Arbuckle, Dunnigan, Maxwell, Meridian, and Williams.
“To score a bid to Nationals, the girls had to compete at a JAMZ qualifying event and score above a 70,” said Oviedo.
For the Junior Bears, this will be their third appearance at the national competition, and for its younger members, this will be its first competition.
“This is going to be my second year attending Nationals. I am super excited. What I like about Nationals is being able to cheer in front of all the people on the big mat and under the bright lights. It’s an amazing experience,” said Ava Oviedo from the Pee Wee squad.
