Fire displaces family before Christmas

A house fire just 10 days before Christmas has left a Colusa family homeless.
The Colusa Fire Department was called to a home in the 1,000 block of Market Street around 6 AM on Friday, Dec. 15.

Colusa Fire Chief Logan Conley said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but that the flames were contained to the attic area.

Because of the way the older home was constructed, Conley said firefighters had to cut a large hole in the roof of the house in order to access the fire.

Williams Fire and Sacramento River Fire District were called to assist with the incidentå, while Meridian Fire covered Colusa Fire’s calls, Conley said.

The fire took about an hour to knock down, with additional time spent trying to salvage some of the property belonging to the renter of the property.

Due to the extensive damage to the home, the American Red Cross was called to assist with relocating the occupants to a new location, Conley said. ■
