Williams’ education chief kisses pig

Dr. Edgar Lampkin kissed a pig and he liked it.

The Williams Unified School District superintendent, as Lucha libre, showed his good sportsmanship on Friday when he gave a piglet a peck on its lips for a good cause.

And the piglet wasn’t just any pig, but a Cy Hawkins Showpig, which Hawkins loaned Williams Upper Elementary School for the March 23 special awards assembly.

The Parent Teacher Organization sponsored the fundraiser, which raised just over $100, said member Maryah Stoots.

Middle school students got to choose who had to kiss the pig by casting their votes with money dropped into containers located in the office.

Stoots said the PTO raises money throughout the year to help fund a variety of things, including field trips, contest prizes, and playground equipment.

Candidates to kiss the pig, in addition to Lampkin, were the fourth, fifth and sixth grade and physical education teachers, as well as the office and cafeteria workers.

Students donated $43.74 to see their superintendent kiss the piglet. The sixth grade teachers received the second highest votes with $26.71 raised, and the fifth grade teachers came in third with $13.61 raised. ■
