Supes extend contract of County Administrative Officer Tyler

The Colusa County Board of Supervisors are happy with the job that Colusa County CAO Wendy Tyler is doing, and they made that apparent last week when they extended her contract for another five years.

During the regularly scheduled board meeting on May 15, the board unanimously approved a modification to Tyler’s contract, which, in addition to extending it, also provided for an increase to her vacation leave accrual rate by 3.12 hours per month, or five days per calendar year. The initial term of the contract was from Jan. 4, 2016 through Jan. 3, 2019, with automatic one year successive renewals. With the modification, the term of the contract has been extended to Jan. 3, 2024.

“I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to continue as the CAO for the County. The organization is filled with dedicated folks who work hard providing vital services to our citizens,” Tyler said. “The first few years have been a whirlwind and I don’t expect things to slow down moving forward.”

Other than the expense associated with additional vacation accrual, which is estimated to be approximately $2,874 per year, there is no additional fiscal impact to the county, Marcos Kropf, county counsel, said in a staff report.

“Wendy has been an incredible addition to our staff,” Supervisor Denise Carter said last week. “She clearly understands the direction that the Board would like to go and is doing a great job in getting things done. In the 2.5 years that she that she has been here, she has become a respected leader and problem solver for our community.”

Carter went on to credit Tyler for implementing an internal reorganization to improve the county’s constituent experience through the creation of the Community Development Department, and for improving efficiency in operations, budgeting, and purchasing. Carter added that Tyler is currently working on a plan to effectively keep the county’s citizens informed on county services and public safety.

“Wendy is an asset to our community,” Carter said. “She fits in well and I appreciate that she has relocated here, too.”

Supervisor Kent Boes echoed Carter’s comments about Tyler’s fit in the county.
“She has proven to be a great fit with the administration in the county as a whole. She’s done a lot of good work as far as getting our goals accomplished,” Boes said. “She and I work together very well. We wanted to give her a little more security as well, because she’s doing such a great job, and we really would like her to stay.”
