It’s going to be a big week.
First up, is a trip to Reno to meet my girls? They are faithful in coming each year to see us, usually over the 4th of July. It has become our tradition for me to meet up with them in Reno before they head to Chico to see Becky’s family for a few days. But then, they are all ours.
e always enjoy the time at the lake, and especially the joy we see when granddaughter Lea has so much fun in the water. A little fish for sure, there is no fear. She runs and jumps off the boat into the lake, swims back, climbs the latter back into the boat only to repeat the jump time and again.
Regardless of where we are or what we do, I’m just happy when we’re all together.
At the end of the week it will finally be time for the “big” wedding. Our dear, dear friends Gary and Katherine will be getting married. Tom and I have the pleasure and the honor to be their attendants.
Considering Gary drove across country from California to North Dakota to stand with us, it only seems fitting.
One of the bonuses of my moving back to California all of those years ago was my new found friendship with Gary. Now, he has brought Katherine into our lives and we couldn’t be happier.
They are perfect for one another. As long as she continues to adore our Gary as much as she does, we will always be happy.
I have to mention that Katherine is from South Carolina, but she said it was important to have the wedding here where so many of Gary’s family and friends live.
Over the years, I’ve written here about the value of friendships. Along the way some of our friends become family.
We were talking the other day about my circle of friends, and as I still have many here I have known a lifetime; many are new found friends since I returned to California 16 plus years ago.
God is good like that. He tends to give you people you need in your life just when you need them most.
Since moving back to California, we have lost a few people. I guess that is the cycle of life, but it certainly makes you stop and appreciate the folks who have come into your life along the way.
So, this week as I get to have time with my babies, and as we get to celebrate the joy of our friends Gary and Katherine, we are reminded of the joy in our relationships and in our times together.
Time with people we love is precious.
Don’t take it for granted, and by all means, don’t let it slip away.
Life is good today. ■
