Kathryn Jean Boyes (1930-2018)

Kathryn Jean Boyes was born in Colusa, California June 9, 1930 to Alma Marie (LaGrande) and Jerome Peter Stephens. She passed away in Willows, California, August 8, 2018.

Jean was raised in Colusa and attended Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School and Colusa High School before attending Yuba College in Marysville.

A devoted country girl at heart, Jean spent her summers working with her grandparents, Joe and Adeline LaGrande at their family ranch west of Williams. She loved living on the ranch where she was close to her aunts and uncles. The ranch was the inspiration and Jean where she developed her artistic talents as an artist and painter.

She married William J. Boyes, Jr. February 9, 1950 and moved to Williams where her
husband and his parents had owned and operated Boyes’ Beauty and Barber shop since 1926.

A family soon followed with four sons.

She became an accomplished painter winning many awards for her work with oil and water color.

After her husband passed away in 1999, she continued to operate the beauty business in downtown Williams until she retired at age 72 in 2003. She continued to paint but found a new passion in the form of her grandchildren.

Jean also served as a board member and contributing writer to the Colusi County Historical Society

Jean is survived by her four sons, Nip, Vance (Nancy), Reese (Cori) and Brock (Kristin).

She also has 8 grandchildren: Brooke, Ross, Lauren, Shelen, Hayden, Brier and Gannon Boyes and one great grandchild, Alexis Boyes.

A rosary will be held Friday, August 17, at 7 PM at McNary Moore funeral chapel. A requiem Mass will be held August 18, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Colusa at 10 AM.

Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colusa. Following the services, family and friends are invited to Granzella’s Banquet Room in Williams to share memories and reminisce.
